Fall is coming...

10/2/2014

Fall in Missouri is slowly approaching. The last couple of days have been humid and in the mid to high 80s.  I'm ready for this week coming up with the temps in the 70s!  Meany has given birth to a new baby on September 28th. This is first calf since about a year and a half, so we were very excited to get a glimpse of this little one. It looks exactly like her, it's amazing!
We have three steers that will be for sale here pretty soon and one heifer.
We have added some Red Wattle pigs to the farm and Charlotte, who's breed is unknown but she's just the sweetest thing and once she gets big enough will make some cute piglets with Wilbur our soon to be boar.
Our chickens, which we got the day old from Cackle Hatchery have thrived and are being crazy chickens. I can't believe the different personalities between the breeds.  We've added 12 Dominiques and 11 Cochin, which the Cochin will a majority of meat birds since we had to get a straight run and we received a majority roosters.
Sorry for the time between posts, soon there should be less time between the posts.  The house is in progress!

Thanks for reading!

Here is the first two calves for the year!  Welcome babies...these calves are from our new bull.  Oddly enough the white speckled calf was the first born out of the two.  Notice the stockiness of the newborn calf.  The second born, the more fawn colored, has some legs that never end!  Really excited to see the other babies from our pregnant mommas.

Thank you for checking out the blog today.  I hope you have a great day.

We are still currently stationed here in Japan, but my mother and mil just visited and returned back to the states.  From what I have heard fall is on its way to the farm.  I know here in Japan it started off with a roar with Typhoon Jelewat.  All the babies were born and are growing in abundance.  I will have to post some of the newer pictures of the calves.  From the last count we had all bulls minus one heifer.  All the bulls have been banded and we are just holding off until it's time to sell them.  If you are interested in purchasing the heifer we will add photos soon, just contact us.

Well i'm proud to say that we have a bustling five calves on the farm!!!  We are awaiting one more to grace us with their presence.  It's pretty exciting that all the moms are delivering with no problems.  I'll be posting some new pictures of the babies.  We have yet to see what the new calves are but can't wait to see them grow and flourish.  Most of all the calves will be for sale once they are old enough.  We will let you guys know about the sexes once we have been able to check them out.  Most of the bulls, unless told ahead of times we will turn into steers.

First Blog Post!

Here is our first blog post for the new website!  I'm so excited to finally get the website/blogspot up and running.  Like stated in the "getting to know you" section we are currently stationed at Yokota Airbase in Japan but have traveled back and forth a few times to spend some time on the farm.
Our cattle can withstand some pretty gnarly conditions and are thriving right now in the spring time season.  The new grass is popping up and our heifers and cows are giving birth to their offspring.  We have recently welcomed two new calves to the herd.  The newest of the heifers that we bought about a year ago have given birth.  We are awaiting the other four babies here anyday.  The offspring is from our late bull Big Boy.  He passed away a little less than a year ago.  When we were back in Missouri in February 2012 we purchased another bull and he is ready to take on the herd as main man.

There will be more pictures when we receive new pictures of the herd.  Until then, please email us with any questions.

My name is Shayna Poole and I have started this page and blog to show our life on the farm.  I married my husband on 2008 and have been living off the land with our heritage breed cattle.  We are currently stationed overseas at Yokota Airbase, Japan and we have friends helping us with ensuring the herd stays strong.  We have two beautifully crazy kids that we can't wait to share the farming lifestyle with.
